This powerful human drama set on the banks of Lake Titicaca launched Jorge Sanjinés and Bolivia onto the international cinema scene when it screened at the 1967 Cannes Film Festival. Lauded by the directors of the French New Wave, this debut feature by Sanjines is the first film to be shot in Aymara. Featuring stunning cinematography and compassion for indigenous people, Ukamau launched a revolution in Bolivian cinema that continues to this day.
