Media Arts Santa Ana’s Millennial Producers Academy (MILPA) is an innovative and responsive program that provides Santa Ana youth and young adults from a diverse cross-section of local schools and community, justice, health, cultural and advocacy organizations.

Classes will be held virtually and/or in-person Saturdays from 11:30am-3:30pm

MASA’s Millennial Producers Academy provides a fun and comprehensive media arts course for students from ages 13-24. Each 8-week session will deliver a comprehensive training in the fundamentals of digital media production, creative storytelling, and how to develop career pathways in the creative and digital arts. Each class will be two-hours long, and instruction will focus on how to make high-quality video projects with tablets and cell phones, which are widely available to the target population, and which provide access to free or low-cost high quality digital production apps, such as Filmic Pro, Movie Pro, iMovie, Garage Band, Adobe Spark Video and Final Draft Mobile.

The instruction will focus on the following:

  • How to Use a Camera (Fundamentals of Cinematography)
  • Lighting Techniques
  • Sound Recording
  • Editing
  • Brainstorming a Project
  • How To Write a Script
  • How To Be A Great Producer
  • Exporting and Sharing Your Work

By mastering the fundamentals of digital media production, participants can create high-quality, creative and technically-proficient projects. The production fundamentals learned in this class will empower participants to begin a career path in media arts production.

Introducing participants to a world of powerful digital production tools that are literally at their fingertips, MILPA helps overcome the digital divide that results from lack of access to resources and technology so critical to success in today’s society and workforce.

Participation is free and capacity is limited. Participants should have access to a tablet and Zoom/internet to participate in the virtual course instruction. (iPad preferred and Android tablet acceptable).

Schedule Subject to Change.
